StaffAlan Essig, Executive Director - Alan is the founding Executive Director of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute. Alan focuses on overall budget and revenue policy issues. His prior professional experience includes serving as a Senior Research Associate with the Fiscal Research Center of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University as well as Deputy Policy Director within the Governor’s Office. Alan has also worked as Committee Aide for the Georgia State Senate and Georgia House of Representatives Appropriations Committees, Assistant Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Director of the Georgia State Senate Research Office, Deputy Director of the Budgetary Responsibility Oversight Committee, and as a legislative budget analyst for the New York State Senate Finance Committee. Alan has a B.A. in History from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and an MPA from the State University of New York at Albany. Sarah Beth Gehl, Deputy Director – Sarah Beth’s policy areas include taxes, economic development, education and workforce development. Sarah Beth has a Masters in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a B.A. in English and Mathematics from Birmingham Southern College. Aimee R. Goodman, Director of Development — Aimee is responsible for the financial resource development activities of the GBPI. Previously, Aimee has worked with a number of organizations, including the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, Hadassah, Hillels of Georgia and the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. Aimee has a Masters in Social Work and Community Organization from Yeshiva University and a B.A. from The Ohio State University. Peter Armstrong, Community Education and Outreach Coordinator — Peter coordinates the GBPI public education and outreach campaign as well as the overall communications strategy. Peter has a B.A., Masters of Education, and Masters of Public Administration from Harvard University. Timothy Sweeney, Senior Healthcare Analyst — Tim undertakes research in regards to Medicaid, PeachCare, Public Health, and the uninsured. Tim was previously employed as a Senior Fiscal Analyst with the Arizona Joint Legislative Budget Committee where he performed budget and policy analysis in regards to Medicaid and other healthcare issues. Tim has a Master of Public Affairs degree from the La Follette School of Public Affairs, University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in Mathematics and Political Science from the University of Oregon. Clare Richie, Senior Policy Analyst – Clare is a senior policy analyst whose policy areas include child welfare, as well as other social services. Previously, Clare worked as the Regional Director of the International Rescue Committee in Atlanta. Clare has an MPA from Georgia State University and a B.A. in Mathematical Economics from Brown University. Robert Welsh, Policy Analyst – Robert’s policy areas include TANF, Food Stamps/Hunger, Corrections and the Environment. Robert has Masters of Public Administration from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Science from Seton Hall University.
