2023 Georgia Medicaid Unwinding: Grassroots Advocacy Toolkit

Starting in April 2023, Georgia will have about a year to unwind the pandemic-era Medicaid continuous coverage policy and re-determine the eligibility of all Georgians who get their health care coverage through Medicaid and PeachCare. This will put unprecedented pressure on our state agencies and our health care system and could result in major coverage losses—including temporary losses in coverage for children. Grassroots organizations play an important role—through advocacy and community support—in minimizing the harm of the unwinding and helping Georgians stay connected to life-saving health care.

We partnered with Georgians for a Healthy Future and Georgia Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call For Moral Revival to create the Georgia Medicaid Unwinding Toolkit, which provides critical guidance and resources to help support those affected by the unwinding process. Critical SNAP Updates

The Georgia Department of Human Services has clarified that SNAP recipients can use their EBT card with any unspent SNAP benefits in November.

DHS states: “Households may continue to redeem benefits issued to their electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card prior to Nov. 1, 2025, at any SNAP authorized retailer.”

However, as DHS reported before, the November SNAP benefits will be suspended until federal funds are available.
