GEORGIA – While time is running short for federal leaders to fund Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits by the start of November, the Georgia Department of Human Services has clarified that any unspent benefits from previous months can be used in November. USDA, the federal agency that administers SNAP, also made this point on page two of a memo released last week.
This is an important update to a previous message from the Georgia DHS that stated unspent benefits from previous months could not be used in November if the federal government does not fund SNAP.
“We strongly urge our federal leaders to take action to fund SNAP benefits for the coming month,” said Ife Finch Floyd, Director of Economic Justice at the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute. “In the meantime, SNAP recipients should be clear that they can use any leftover benefits as they normally would.”
