Local Macon Advocacy Group Hosts Training Event

GBPI joined several groups including the New Georgia Project (NGP), WIC and the Macon Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council to host an advocacy training to help attendees learn about how to tell their stories and advocate for improved health care and child care for their communities.

This coalition of organizations wants to ensure that every person in Macon is well equipped to create change at the state and local level to improve their quality. Some issues discussed included a lack of access to healthcare, specifically obstetrics, and the challenge to locate affordable childcare.

Critical SNAP Updates

The Georgia Department of Human Services has clarified that SNAP recipients can use their EBT card with any unspent SNAP benefits in November.  

DHS states: “Households may continue to redeem benefits issued to their electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card prior to Nov. 1, 2025, at any SNAP authorized retailer.” 

However, as DHS reported before, the November SNAP benefits will be suspended until federal funds are available.
