From now until Sept. 18, families of school children who receive free and reduced-priced lunch can apply to get Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). This week the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) changed this deadline from Sept. 25 to ensure they receive updated addresses of eligible recipients as soon as possible in order to distribute benefits. DFCS says it will still manually issue P-EBT benefits to eligible families who are unable to submit a P-EBT application online by Sept. 18, and the P-EBT card will be mailed to their last known address.
What is P-EBT?
P-EBT is a program administered by the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services that provides a one-time allotment of $256.50 per eligible child to families of school children who receive free or reduced-price meals. Families will receive an EBT card that can be used as cash at participating retailers.
Who is eligible for P-EBT?
All students who received free or reduced-price meals at Georgia’s K-12 public schools during the 2019-2020 school term are eligible to receive P-EBT. Pre-K students who attended a Georgia public school also qualify. Due to school closures caused by the pandemic, these households are now eligible to receive benefits on an EBT card to help them buy food. How do I apply for P-EBT?
Current SNAP participants receiving benefits do not need to apply for P-EBT. You will receive the added benefits on your exisiting EBT card. Non-SNAP participants who are eligible will need to provide basic information for their children, including their Student Testing ID. If you do not have a Student Testing ID, contact your school.
